“Sono nato a Orbetello, nel 1973. A quei tempi, in casa avevamo una macchina da scrivere. Una Antares. Un giorno presi un foglio, lo inserii e iniziai a scrivere un racconto. Una storia di fantascienza. Alla fine, rilegai una decina di pagine con una spillatrice: il mio primo libro. Ero uno scrittore.” (Riccardo Bruni)
Con qualche differenza, è più o meno andata così anche per me. Un giorno ho preso la macchina fotografica e ho deciso di iniziare a raccontare le cose a modo mio, senza descriverle necessariamente per quello che erano. Addirittura inventando, a volte, perché mi sembrava, ingenuamente, che a Orbetello non ci fosse tanto da raccontare e che servisse un po’ di fantasia.
Amicizia e esperienze comuni a parte - io e Riccardo siamo cresciuti nello stesso condominio - questo è il motivo per cui mi piace quando riesco a sentirmi vicino al Riccardo che scrive storie, cioè quando riesco a sentirmi come lui tanti anni fa di fronte a quella macchina da scrivere. Allora prendo anch’io un foglio e inizio a riempirlo, non solo di immagini, ma, ancora una volta, anche di musica, di letture, di incontri. E di sigari e chiacchiere fino a tardi.

“I was born in Orbetello, in 1973. At that time we had an old Antares typewriter at home and one day I took a piece of paper and started writing a story. A science fiction story. In the end I bound about ten pages with a stapler. My first book. I was a writer." (Riccardo Bruni)
With just a few differences it went about the same way for me. One day I took my camera and decided to start communicating in my own way, not necessarily describing things as they actually were. Even inventing sometimes because it naively seemed to me that there wasn't much to tell in Orbetello and that a little imagination was needed. So came out my first prints. I was a photographer.
Friendship and common experiences aside - both me and Riccardo grew up in the same small town - that’s why I like it when I feel close to him writing his story a long time ago. I take a blank sheet too and start filling it up with images and music and readings and meetings. And cigars and talking staying up late.
